This free resource provides excellent videos on both the actual surgery and all the pre-surgery procedures, The actual surgery videos, unfortunately, are specific to modern surgical techniques. However, All the videos leading up to the imaging and actual surgical procedures are very applicable to a low resource setting. Which is why we still give this resource 4 out of 5 stars.
This resource consists of lecture tutorials and virtual case modules. These include videos and animations of the operations, and cover other medical knowledge such as physical examinations and explanations of lab tests. It has excellent videos of virtual cases including explanation of the operational procedures with animation and actual surgical videos, medical knowledge lectures, professionalism, etc. There are 21 case modules and 14 skills modules available through the Med-U website.
One needs to register in order to gain access to the content; registration is not straightforward and limited to certain universities. Other universities and individuals may have to pay a subscription fee in order to access the content. There is no testing material.
FACULTY TIME REQUIREMENTS
These videos are great, unfortunately they are specific to modern surgical techniques. All the videos leading up to the imaging and actual surgical procedures are very applicable to a low resource setting. Faculty could use these for individual students to review on their on, or as lectures to be shown by the faculty member with explanation of the appropriate imaging and surgical technique for their particular hospital.
