Florida International's General Biochemistry
Ownership: Florida International University
his resource is our top recommendation for the subject of Biochemistry, and the closest we have come to replacing an entire course. This is a full course with audio synchronized PowerPoint slides. The content is complete, comprehensive, and at the medical student level. Students can take notes on each slide as needed, and the play speed is adjustable. There are also practice exams and answer keys.
This is our top recommendation for the subject of Biochemistry, and the closest we have come to replacing an entire course. This resource is a full course with audio synchronized PowerPoint slides. These slides are available through YouTube or the FIU Media Site - both loaded quickly. Answers to reading problems are provided, but the course text (Principles of Biochemistry by Lehniger) has not been incorporated and must be purchased separately. It is a complete course, detailed and stands on its own, but lacks an interactive element. Most of the narrated PowerPoints are 30-40 minutes in length. In addition to the lectures, there are practice exams and exam keys.
FACULTY TIME REQUIREMENTS
This is a complete biochemistry course with comprehensive lectures and slides. Students would need a textbook. The corresponding text that is recommended is Principles of Biochemistry by Lehniger. This could save considerable faculty time and could replace a standard biochemistry course. Faculty would only be needed to answer student questions and write and grade exams.
The Google Speed Score for the website is 85/100, and the site as a whole runs fairly fast. The narrated PPTs are streamed on YouTube and on the FIU Media site and are not available to download. However, non-narrated versions of the PPT are available to download, as well as the answers to the end of chapter questions.
